ANC sponsors new award for sound sustainability solutions
A new award recognising the development of sustainable solutions in acoustics has been launched under the 2025 John Connell Awards, in partnership with the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) and ANV Measurement Systems.
The John Connell Sustainable Development Award has been introduced as a new category in the renowned accolades, organised by the Noise Abatement Society (NAS).
Open to government, local government, industry, organisations and individuals throughout the UK, and internationally when there is also a benefit to the UK, the John Connell Awards 2025 now cover nine categories in total.
They collectively recognise innovative and/or novel services, campaigns, products and programmes that are shining examples of community co-operation, co-production, diversity and inclusivity, education and outreach, and creative solutions to cut noise and deliver sustainable soundscapes and good quality liveable and listenable places.
The new John Connell Sustainable Development Award, sponsored by the ANC and ANV Measurement Systems, will recognise and encourage the development of sustainable development products, services and solutions that reduce noise and/or improve sound to benefit the environment, society – in terms of health and wellbeing – and the economy in line with the relevant/applicable areas of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Gloria Elliott OBE, chief executive, Noise Abatement Society, said: “The Noise Abatement Society is excited to introduce the new John Connell Sustainable Development Award designed in collaboration with and kindly sponsored by the ANC and ANV Measurement Systems.
“The new award champions solutions to support health promoting sound environments and sustainable placemaking benefiting society, the environment and the economy.”
The category is purposely broad to reflect Lindsay’s Wheel of Acoustics and the wide-ranging impact of the acoustics industry on sustainability.
Entries for this award should meet at least one of the following criteria:
- new or enhanced product(s) or solutions demonstrating significant and/or novel sustainability in technological, managerial and/or process advancement(s) to resolve noise and/or improve the sound environment, and/or
- organisations demonstrating a history of sustainable development for more than 2 years to resolve noise and/or improve the sound environment.
Louise Beamish, Chair of the ANC, said: “The new John Connell Sustainable Development Award is a welcome addition to the prestigious John Connell Awards, recognising the importance of acoustics in sustainability.
“We are pleased to join ANV Measurement Systems in sponsoring this award and look forward to hearing about the sustainable solutions of the future.”
